ঠাকুর বৈষ্ণবগণ, করি এই নিবেদন,
মো বḓঅ অধম দুরাচার
দারুণসংসারনিধি, তাহে ডুবাইল বিধি,
কেশে ধরিঽ মোরে কর পার ১

mo baḓa adhama durācāra
dāruṇa-saṁsāra-nidhi, tāhe ḍubāila bidhi,
keśe dhari’ more kara pāra 1
ṭhākura — worshipable; baiṣṇabagaṇa — O Vaiṣṇavas; kari — I submit; ei — this; nibedana — prayer; mo — me; baḓa — greatly; adhama — fallen; durācāra — wicked; dāruṇa — terrible, frightful, grievous, heinous; saṁsāra — material existence; nidhi — ocean; tāhe — in that; ḍubāila — caused to drown; bidhi — fate; keśe — onto hair; dhari’ — having held; more — to me; kara pāra — make cross over
O worshipful Vaiṣṇavas, I humbly submit this prayer to you. I am an extremely fallen and wicked soul, and my fate is causing me to drown in the terrible ocean of material existence. Take hold of the hair on my head and rescue me from this ocean.
বিধি বḓঅ বলবান্, না শুনে ধরমজ্ঞান,
সদাই করমপাশে বান্ধে
না দেখি তারণলেশ, যত দেখি সব ক্লেশ,
অনাথ, কাতরে তেইং কান্দে ২
bidhi baḓa balabān, nā śune dharama-jñāna,
sadāi karama-pāśe bāndhe
nā dekhi tāraṇa-leśa, yata dekhi saba kleśa,
anātha, kātare teĩ kānde 2
bidhi — providence; baḓa — greatly; balabān — powerful; nā — not; śune — hear, pay heed to; dharama — religiosity; jñāna — knowledge; sadāi — always; karama — fruitive reactions; pāśe — with ropes; bāndhe — he binds; nā — not; dekhi — I see; tāraṇa — savior, rescuer, means of deliverance; leśa — slight; yata — whatever; dekhi — I see; saba — all; kleśa — misery; anātha — helpless; kātare — stricken with grief, frightened; teĩ — (tāhāte, tajjanya) for that, thus; kānde — weep
Providence is extremely powerful and does not consider one’s religiosity or knowledge; rather, it always binds one with the ropes of karma. I do not see even the slightest means of deliverance; all I see is misery. Thus I weep, helpless and stricken with grief.
কাম, ক্রোধ, লোভ, মোহ, মদ, অভিমান সহ,
আপন আপন স্থানে টানে
ঐছন আমার মন, ফিরে যেন অন্ধজন,
সুপথবিপথ নাহি জানে ৩
kāma, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, abhimāna saha,
āpana āpana sthāne ṭāne
aichana āmāra mana, phire yena andhajana,
supatha-bipatha nāhi jāne 3
kāma — lust; krodha — anger; lobha — greed; moha — bewilderment; mada — madness; abhimāna — pride; saha — with; āpana āpana — own respective; sthāne — places; ṭāne — drags; aichana — like; āmāra — my; mana — mind; phire — wanders; yena — just like; andhajana — blind + person; supatha — the right path; bipatha — the wrong path; nāhi — not; jāne — knows
Lust, anger, greed, and bewilderment, along with madness and pride, are dragging me to their respective abodes. My mind wanders like a blind man, without any understanding of the right or wrong path.
না লইনু সৎ মত, অসতে মজিল চিত,
তুয়া পায়ে না করিনু আশ
নরোত্তমদাসে কয়, দেখিঽ শুনিঽ লাগে ভয়,
তরাইয়া লহ নিজপাশ ৪
nā la·inu sat mata, asate majila cita,
tuyā pāye nā karinu āśa
narottamadāse kaya, dekhi’ śuni’ lāge bhaya,
tarāiyā laha nija-pāśa 4
nā — not; la·inu — I have taken; sat — religiosity; mata — the tenets; asate — in irreligious matters; majila — absorbed; cita — consciousness; tuyā — Your; pāye — in the feet; nā — not; karinu āśa — I have aspired; narottamadāse — Narottama dāsa; kaya — says; dekhi’ — having seen; śuni’ — having heard; lāge — feels; bhaya — fear; tarāiyā — having delivered; laha — take; nija — your; pāśa — near
I have not accepted the tenets of religiosity; rather, my consciousness has been absorbed in irreligious matters. I have not aspired for your lotus feet. Narottama dāsa says, “O Vaiṣṇava Ṭhākura, I fear what I see and hear around me. Grant me deliverance and keep me near you.”
