হরি হে!
দানপ্রতিগ্রহ, মিথো গুপ্তকথা,
ভক্ষণ, ভোজনদান
সঙ্গের লক্ষণ, এই ছয় হয়,
ইহাতে ভক্তির প্রাণ ১

dāna-pratigraha, mitho gupta-kathā,
bhakṣaṇa, bhojana-dāna
saṅgera lakṣaṇa, ei chaya haya,
ihāte bhaktira prāṇa 1
hari — Hari; he — O; dāna — act of giving; pratigraha — acceptance of gifts; mitho — (paraspar) one another, mutual; gupta — confidential; kathā — topics; bhakṣaṇa — act of eating; bhojana — feeding; dāna — act of giving; saṅgera — of association; lakṣaṇa — characteristics; ei — these; chaya — six; haya — are; ihāte — in them; bhaktira — of devotion; prāṇa — life, vitality
O Hari! Offering and receiving gifts; sharing and discussing confidential topics; accepting and offering prasāda—these are the six characteristics of [devotional] association, in which lies the life of bhakti.
তত্ত্ব না বুঝিয়ে, জ্ঞানে বা অজ্ঞানে,
অসতে এ সব করিঽ
ভক্তি হারাইনু, সংসারী হইনু,
সুদূরে রহিলে হরি ২
tattba nā bujhiye, jñāne bā ajñāne,
asate e saba kari’
bhakti hārāinu, saṁsārī ha·inu,
sudūre rahile hari 2
tattba — essential truth; nā — not; bujhiye — having comprehended; jñāne — knowingly; bā — or; ajñāne — unknowingly; asate — with non-devotees; e — these; saba — all; kari’ — having done; bhakti — devotion; hārāinu — I have lost; saṁsārī — materialist; ha·inu — I have become; sudūre — very far away; rahile — You remained; hari — O Hari
Not comprehending this essential truth and having engaged knowingly or unknowingly in these exchanges with non-devotees, I have lost all devotion and have become a materialist. As a result, You remain very far away, O Hari.
ক্ড়্ষ্ণভক্তজনে, এ সঙ্গলক্ষণে,
আদর করিব যবে
ভক্তিমহাদেবী, আমার হ্ড়্দয়,
আসনে বসিবে তবে ৩
kṛṣṇabhakta-jane, e saṅga-lakṣaṇe,
ādara kariba yabe
bhakti-mahādebī, āmāra hṛdaya-,
āsane basibe tabe 3
kṛṣṇabhakta jane — with devotees of Kṛṣṇa; e — these; saṅga — association; lakṣaṇe — in characteristics; ādara kariba — I will respect; yabe — when; bhakti — devotion; mahādebī — the great goddess; āmāra — my; hṛdaya — heart; āsane — on the throne; basibe — she will sit; tabe — then
When I respect devotees of Śrī Kṛṣṇa in accordance with these types of association, then Bhakti-Mahādevī will sit upon the throne of my heart.
যোষিৎসঙ্গী জন, ক্ড়্ষ্ণাভক্ত আর,
দুংহুসঙ্গ পরিহরিঽ
তব ভক্তজন, সঙ্গ অনুক্ষণ,
কবে বা হইবে হরি ৪
yoṣitsaṅgī jana, kṛṣṇābhakta āra,
dũhu-saṅga parihari’
taba bhaktajana-, saṅga anukṣaṇa,
kabe bā ha·ibe hari 4
yoṣitsaṅgī jana — people who associate with ladies (strī); kṛṣṇābhakta — Kṛṣṇa + (kṛṣṇer abhakta arthāt bhakti-hīn – yathā māyāvādī, nirviśeṣvādī prabhṛti) non-devotees (those not devoid of devotion to Kṛṣṇa such as māyāvādīs, impersonalist and so on; āra — and; dũhu — (dui janer) both (two people’s); saṅga — association; parihari’ — having abandoned, shunned, disregarded; taba — Your; bhaktajana — devotees; saṅga — association; anukṣaṇa — at every moment; kabe — when; bā — [used to emphasize a question]; ha·ibe — will be; hari — O Hari
Shunning the company of both those who are attached to women and those who are non-devotees, when will I have the perpetual association of Your devotees, O Hari?
